Circuit Board Templates

For the electronics industry and other sectors that use electronic circuit boards, Composite Resources has developed the QuickCheck™ line of templates, designed for the efficient and thorough inspection of printed circuit boards. QuickCheck™ templates are used during "midstream" quality control inspection, and are also an integral part of the printed circuit board (PCB) final inspection of the finished product.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) have evolved dramatically in form and function over the past 40 to 50 years. As electronic assemblies, modules, and systems advanced, there was a need to economically populate (or, in industry terms, "stuff") components into smaller and smaller spaces of system real estate – especially with advancements in integrated circuits, microprocessors, controllers, capacitors, resistors, inductors and other discrete devices. For example, the "Point-to-Point" soldering of discrete components, which was commonplace in the 1950s and 1960s, could not support electronics systems that were becoming more and more complicated; more components were needed to handle the ever-growing complexities of electronic systems and controls. Printed circuit boards were the answer to economically and efficiently design the electronics of a system. Early versions of printed circuit boards were single or two layer designs – that is, copper traces on the bottom of the board or on both sides of the PCB. Today's printed circuit board designs typically have multiple layers – 3, 4, 5 or more – with voltage and ground planes, as well as signal traces, embedded in internal PCB layers.

To meet the demand for careful and quick inspection of printed circuit boards, Composite Resources designs QuickCheck™ templates. QuickCheck™ templates are laser cut final inspection sheets that are manufactured from electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistant and safe plastic acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) material. These templates can be used at quality control in-process inspection stations as part of the PCB manufacturing process, as well as in the final inspection phase, and can be used for multiple job builds.

As noted above, each QuickCheck™ template is custom laser cut to the exact board component geometry and footprint for accuracy, and then etched with the printed circuit board part number and job ID so that the template can be easily identified. Another reason Composite Resources uses laser etching is for in-house template identification and reordering purposes – making it easier for you, the customer to reorder templates if the need arises. Design files are sent electronically through our secure on-line order system, then translated into GC Place and Corel Draw form before the final laser cut. To produce QuickCheck™ templates, ABS sheet material is available in four colors – clear, white, tan and blue. For design and layout orders, QuickCheck™ templates typically take 72 hours from receipt of order to shipment. When special circumstances call for expedited same day or next day service, we ask that you electronically send us your paste mask, solder and silkscreen art files, as well as your .tab, fatf.asc, or .dxf files to meet your critical needs.

We developed and refined our QuickCheck™ template line to meet the requirement for inspection of electronic printed circuit boards for the electronics industry, as well as every current and prospective client in related technical/industrial sectors. Meeting and exceeding the needs of customers in terms of custom and standard composite products is our passion at Composite Resources.

These templates are used for the quick inspection of printed circuit boards.
