I can improve on the definition for 'Gearheads': A planetary gear system consists of at least one outer gear that “orbits” around a central gear of an epicyclic train. When a planetary gear system is considered to have zero backlash it does not have any free room in the mated gear teeth. A high precision inline planetary servo gearhead is used when a user wants to have zero backlash for times when reversing the rotation of the gears can not involve loss of motion due to slack in the gear teeth.
