This month, we are talking all about Blackmer, a company that manufactures some of the most reliable and sought-after pumps in the industry. - The company is over a century old
Blackmer is one of the grandfathers in the industry, having been incorporated back in 1903. RM Blackmer came up with a rotary vane type pump design in 1899, which was a huge development. Before that, only gear style pumps were in circulation. He could not have picked a better time to release his new invention into the world, as the dawn of the new century brought the advent of the automobile and a new-found demand for gasoline in the USA.
- They supplied the US military
In 1914, Blackmer officially began to supply the United States military. It was only three years later that the US entered World War One.
- It was bought by the Dover Corporation
In 1964, Blackmer was bought by the Dover Corporation. But it wasn’t until 2008 that the Dover Corporation formed the Pump Solutions Group (PSG) and Blackmer became a part of that group.
- They designed the first liquefied gas pumps
Way back in 1954, it was Blackmer that introduced the first liquefied gas pumps. It was also around the same time that they produced the first sliding-vane LPG pumps.
- Many have tried to copy their designs
Blackmer’s designs have become synonymous with reliability and efficiency. It comes as no surprise then that many companies have tried (and failed) to copy Blackmer’s designs. None have even come close.
