Construction Bearing Applications

For manufacturers of construction and other off-highway equipment, GGB filament-wound bearings are a greaseless, maintenance-free solution with an extended service life. Our bearings provide superior performance and lower cost of ownership without the need for complex automated greasing systems.

A RELIABLE, LIGHTER, GREASE-FREE SOLUTION

In eliminating the need for lubrication, GGB bearings give customers the advantage of a more environmentally friendly operation. Our self-lubricating bearings are clean, lightweight, and environmentally friendly, providing a more reliable performance than traditional greased bronze bearings.

Used in a wide range of construction equipment, GGB bearings deliver high reliability under the most extreme conditions in applications such as heavy-duty earth-moving and digging equipment, graders, excavators, concrete pumps, pile drivers, and lifting equipment such as fork lifts and pallet trucks, scissor lifts, access platforms in addition to various types of cranes and container handling systems.

OTHER APPLICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Articulating Joints
  • Axle Trunnions?
  • Conveyors
  • Crawlers
  • Critical Clearance Joints
  • Dump Body Pivot
  • Dumpers
  • Frame/Walking Beam Trunnion
  • Kingpins
  • Lift Cylinders
  • Linkage Pins
  • Motor Graders
  • Rock Shaft
  • Skid Steers
  • Steering Cylinders
  • Suspension or Track Trunnions

MADE-TO-MEASURE BEARINGS

ATI Inc. manufactures modular track systems for heavy equipment. These track systems are subjected to enormous loads, both from the weight of the equipment itself as well as shocks from traversing inhospitable terrain. For bearings that stand up to these extreme conditions, ATI Inc. uses GAR-MAX® fiber-reinforced, filament-wound plain bearings to provide good friction and wear properties under slow-speed oscillating or rotating movements.

In 2009, WILBERT Kranservice GmbH introduced Europe’s strongest luffing jib tower crane. Since the displacement of the swinging jib precludes lubrication, the Wilbert engineering team uses GGB’s GAR-MAX® filament-wound plain bearings for their self-lubricating, maintenance-free properties and excellent resistance to shock, misalignment and contamination.

ELIMINATE LUBRICANTS, REDUCE MAINTENANCE

Machine downtime is time-consuming and costly for equipment owners whether it’s for a difficult repair, a bearing replacement or even just to lubricate a joint. GGB has worked with major off-highway OEMs and the Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI) to develop theSBC™ Sealed Bearing Cartridge, aiming to reduce this maintenance time. SBC™ is proven to outperform conventional greased bronze, hardened steel and rolling-element bearings for demanding applications typically found in off-highway, construction and earth-moving equipment.

Maintenance-free

  • Self-lubricating bearings are ideal for applications requiring long bearing life without continuous maintenance in operating conditions with inadequate or no lubrication.

Improved performance and service life

  • Superior wear resistance and high shock load capacity result in extended bearing service life and improved reliability. Excellent low friction properties reduce power losses for improved equipment performance.

Lower system costs

  • Reduce shaft costs by eliminating the need for hardening and machining grease paths. Their compact, one-piece construction provides space and weight savings and simplifies assembly.

Environmentally friendly

GGB bearing experts are available to provide solutions to meet each application’s specific needs with a vast range of standard or custom bearings. GGB bearings offer excellent performance over a wide range of load, speed and temperature conditions and since lubrication is eliminated, equipment no longer needs to be taken out of operation to be serviced, resulting in reduced maintenance costs, substantial savings and an environmentally friendly product.
